Giant City State Park has over 4,000 acres of Forest, Bluffs, Ponds, & Streams, with limitless opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast. The unspoiled beauty of Giant City State Park will take your breath away. Visitors of all ages will love all that the park has to offer, just south of Carbondale the park is remote yet within a short drive of civilization. Camping, picnicking, hunting, fishing, rock climbing, and horseback riding will keep you busy by day. The park got its name from the Streets of Giant City, found along the nature trail, 12,000-year-old sandstone formations resembling city buildings with narrow passageways for “streets.”

The Giant City Visitor Center is a great place to start your day. It is filled with many displays of local wildlife and includes a large three-dimensional topographic map of the park. Everyone who works there is accommodating and can assist in planning your day of adventure.

If horseback riding is your thing, you can BYOH or go to Giant City Stables and rent one. The park features an equestrian campground and a twelve-mile trail around the entire park.
